Peter Ustinov

Writer and actor Peter Ustinov, who died at the age of 82, was a motoring and motor racing enthusiast. He was best known within the sport for his glorious spoof commentary The Grand Prix of Gibraltar. The double Oscar winner had a passion for cars and owned a Hispano-Suiza, a Delage and a Maserati. He was also an occasional visitor to grands prix, notably Monaco. That inspired him in 1958 to record his racing spoof, in which he mimicked the drivers, personalities and even engine noises.

Camilla Maggi

The wife of the founder of the Mille Miglia, Contessa Camilla Maggi has died. She was 94.

In the Maggi palazzo at Calino near Brescia, she and her husband Aymo were gracious and knowledgeable hosts to the likes of Tazio Nuvolari and Stirling Moss, who stayed there before his famous 1955 victory.

Aymo died in 1961.

Bob Freeman

This talented motoring artist has died, aged 57.

A latecomer to the art world, Bob made an impact with his detailed watercolour illustrations. Though his work for Supercar Classics brought renown and many private commissions, he was always diffident about his work, of which Motor Sport published a selection in 2001.
