THE Goodwood Revival’s Madgwick Cup race has been revised this year to be run as a celebration of BMW.

For the first time, the event will only feature pre-1955 2-litre sportscars powered by BMW or BMW-derived engines.

The six-cylinder engine used in the BMW 328 in the late 1930s was later used in a wide array of racing cars and the grid is likely to include a number of British-built specials as well as a gaggle of 328s. Cooper, Frazer Nash, Lotus, Kieft and Lister all built cars that will fit the race’s new format.

The St Mary’s Trophy event for 1950s production saloon cars has also been revised for this year to cater for spectators who will not attend both the Saturday and the Sunday of the meeting. It will be split into two 12-lap parts, with one held on each day of the weekend.
