Letters From Readers - von Brauchitsch - Germany's Best?, May 2000
Sir,
It was wonderful to see an article on Manfred von Brauchitsch. His reticence to comment on past drivers is notorious, thus his praise for Rudi Caracciola was refreshing. I note that Alan Henry refers to Caracciola as “Germany’s second greatest racing driver”. Who is the first? I sincerely hope mere Grand Prix victories are not the criteria by which Henry classifies quality. Finally, it is worth remembering von Brauchitsch’s first GP victory was the 1932 Avusrennen which surely qualifies as an international event given the varied entry list.
I am, yours, etc.
