Letters From Readers - Double Trouble, May 2000

Sir,

What a pity the best drivers dropped out of the Australian GP leaving the most eulogised to coast to another hollow victory; the real downside is the media will continue to shovel undeserved accolades in his direction.

If I may rectify a widespread malapropism, a DOUBLE World Champion is one who has been World Champion in two disciplines — e g F1/Bikes, F1/Indy, even F1/Clay Pigeon Shooting — whereas a driver who has won two F1 titles can only described as “former Twice World Champion”.

Minor exactitudes do not spoil such an excellent magazine, which I have enjoyed for 40 years.

I am, yours, etc.
