To be or not to be

Sir,

Having belatedly read DSJ’s March letter, I wonder whether he has thought of the dreadful possibility that Ferraris do not exist? Consider: the numbers advertised for sale do not match up with the dearth of the things on the road. The beautiful colour photos may be of fibreglass mock-ups — vide the V12 Lagonda at the 1937 Motor Show. If one actually sees one of these mythical beasts in the flesh may not the apparently proud owner really be the equally mythical Mr C. (of Kensington)?

Do not mock. Remember poor young WB and his lovely power curves of a non-existant aero engine, and Ford are proudly advertising a very pretty (red!) little open sports car in the Antipodes which we Europeans naively believe are built by a firm called Mazda who in reality manufacture electric light bulbs.
