As part of the Gates Group’s celebration of its 70th anniversary year, an Epping Forest/Herts Model T Ford Rally is being organised which should be of particular interest to both Model T Ford enthusiasts and vintage car followers in general. The event will take place on Sunday 17th June, and it is hoped that 40 Model Ts will be running the 60 mile course, in what promises to be an interesting nostalgic event.

The Sporting Bears Motor Club, well known for their charity fund raising events, have organised a Motor Tour to take place on September 12th-14th. A non-competitive event for sports cars only, this three day tour starts in Cambridge and finishes in the MOTOR SPORT Club News Editor’s home town of York, taking in the beautiful countryside of Wales, the Lake District and Yorkshire along the way.

One of the most popular activities at the Castle Combe Circuit, which this year celebrates its 40th anniversary, is the “Tuition and Drive” Day, where motor clubs allow their members access to the circuit in their own vehicles. Spectators are welcome and there is no admission charge. During May, the MG Car Club will be running a tuition day on the 19th (contact Max Tyler on 0666 41627 for details) and on May 26th it will be the turn of Club Lotus (contact Margaret Arnold on 0362 694459). A new club has been formed by Brian Cocks and his International race organising team. The Historic Racing Club will concentrate on the new FISA Historic period called category H and covering 1971 to 1975. The first races will be for the source Challenge for Group 6 2-litre sports/racing cars. Following the very successful pilot races at Donington and Silverstone in 1989, eight international races will be run and full details will be announced shortly.

The MG Octagon Car Club is holding its Wings Run on 10th June for pre-1956 MG cars. Old MGs from all over Britain and Europe are expected to attend the annual pilgrimage to Abingdon-on-Thames, and non-members are welcome. The East Midlands Section of the Rover Sports Register are holding a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Marauder Car Company in conjunction with their 10th Pride of Ownership for pre-1950 Rover vehicles at Belvoir Castle near Grantham on Sunday 19th August. All owners of Marauder cars are welcome and there will be a concours for Rover vehicles as well as an autojumble.

Enthusiasts from all over the world will be joining figures from Jaguar’s illustrious sporting past during the weekend of 8th/ 9th/10th June to celebrate the fortieth year of Jaguar’s association with the famous Le Mans 24-Hour race. World Jaguar Weekend, just prior to this year’s Le Mans Race, is the inspiration of the Jaguar/Daimler Archive Council, an international body dedicated to preserving Jaguar’s great heritage. Individual activities during the weekend are organised by the various Jaguar clubs and include a civic reception and preview of the first ever Exhibition of Jaguar Art at the Museum of British Road Transport, Coventry, a Jaguar Rally and Concours d’Elegance at Charlecote Parke near Stratford-upon-Avon on 9th June, and the Andrew Whyte Trophy Race Meeting at Donington Park on 10th June.

This year’s International Spitfire Weekend will take place in Klein Vink, Arcen in Holland on lst/2nd September. A major international event for Spitfire owners everywhere, there will be a wide variety of activities and events lined up for the occasion.

The East Yorkshire group of the MG Car Club are holding their own celebration for the MG Diamond Jubilee. The Sledmere Weekend, at Sledmere House, Driffield, on the 28th/29th July, will feature a Tour of the Wolds (members only) comprising a series of autotests followed by a Treasure Hunt in the evening, and a Concours, along with gymkhana and auction.

Over 300 vehicles are expected to take part in this year’s Barnsley Metropolitan Vintage Vehicle Rally on Sunday 8th July. Now into its 16th year, the rally starts at Elsecar at 10am and follows a 20 mile run finishing in a gala in Locke Park, Barnsley from around 12 noon. Attractions in Locke Park include vehicle displays, brass and steel bands, army displays and trade stands. The Triumph Sports Six Club hold their South of England Meet (SEM) at Leatherhead Leisure Centre on 12th/13th May. This promises to be the biggest and best yet, with many events lined up including a Concours, trade stands, autojumble, gymkhana, competitions, all-day bar(!), Club shop, continuous video show and an evening Noggin and Natter on site. As well as all this, there is the added attraction of the use of the full sports facilities available in the Leisure Centre. The Manx Motor Racing Club is organising a couple of Sprints to be held on 19th/22nd September.
