In defence of Rosberg

Sir,

I have read, and enjoyed, “Jenks” comments on Formula 1 motor racing for many years now. He has always loved the hard racers, until your April issue that is, when he was exceptionally hard on “Keke” Rosberg. Is “Jenks” about to join the safety slot car racers set?

I first saw Rosberg in action some five or six years ago. He was driving a Formula Pacific (Atlantic), for the Fred Opert team. As I watched him practice for the New Zealand Grand Prix at Pukekohe he looked set for disaster on each corner. But disaster never came, only victory. Many of us were reminded of Jochen Rindt who had campaigned a Lotus 49 in the Tasman Series in 1968. Both styles were far from tidy but both men were exceptionally quick. Rosberg has an excellent record in the smaller single seater formulae. He has rarely damaged a car but is never afraid to race.

I think that D.S. J. has misjudged the Finn, who with Formula 1 maturity will become a world champion.
