Stamps with a motor racing flavour

Apart from being a man with an ambition to win Le Mans, a mouthwatering collection of historic racing cars and the ability to drive them very quickly, Alain de Cadenet is a world expert on George V stamps. For those who know his philatelic interests it was no surprise that he was able to attract sponsorship from the British Post Office for his North American racing season with the de Cadenet in 1978 and for the sortie he and Neil Corner made with DBR4 Aston Martin and V12 Ferrari Dion respectively to the Long Beach Historic Race on Grand Prix weekend last month (see page 663/664). 

Now de Cadenet is to busy himself adding a motor racing flavour to the International Stamp Exhibition at Earls Court from May 6th-14th, the premier world exhibition which Britain hosts every ten years. He’ll be working for the Post Office in the children’s section of the exhibition, in a recreation of Victorian railway station, complete with engines, carriages and other effects, where he will be giving lectures and film shows with a motor racing flavour. De Cadenet thinks that it could be of great interest to Motor Sport readers and their children.

The exhibition generally will include part of the Queen’s stamp collection, de Cadenet’s collection of George V stamps, matched in the world only by that of the Queen, and a sheet of Penny Blacks.
