Kipling's Rolls-Royce

Sir,

I notice that there has been some correspondence about Kipling’s cars. He must have been something of a Rolls addict, as two or three years ago I recall having seen an advertisement in the personal column of The Times for Kipling’s own car, a 1928 Phantom I limousine. I didn’t buy it, on account of the price asked—over £1,000, and because of the remarkable stipulation that “only Empire Loyalists or persons of similar persuasion need apply.” I wonder who bought the car—Roy Welensky?
