The First Climb of Clovelly Steps

Sir,

I would like to refer to ” A Bit of History,” as with every respect to your good selves, it should be mentioned that this report is not quite correct.

The first time that any motor car had been driven up and down the High Street, Clovelly, was in the year 1919, the car being one of the first 16-h.p. Sunheams produced after the First World War, being driven by myself. This venture was observed by the R.A.C. and the Sunbeam Motor Car Co., of Wolverhampton, and was reported in The Autocar and in the National Press.

                                                                                                                            I am, Yours, etc.,

Hendon.                                                                                                                                     A. J. FIRTH.
