Team de Rooy Classics’ DAF 3300 Dubbelkop (Double Cab) was again in action at the Dakar Rally (read more on p78) following its debut last year in the Classic category. When, in the 1983 Paris-Dakar, Dutch haulier and truck racer Jan de Rooy realised that a single-engine DAF was inadequate, he created the ‘Two-Headed Monster’ with a pair of 400bhp diesel engines. It first appeared in the 1984 Paris-Dakar; the second cab was used as a housing for the additional engine as well as a bedroom.
