Prost hits out at Alpine F1 team after exit

It’s rare you hear a Formula 1 driver blast their former team after leaving the grand prix paddock, but four-time world champion Alain Prost made no attempt at diplomacy after his fiery exit from the Alpine F1 team.

As news broke that Prost had been removed from his non-executive director role with the Anglo-French team, the 66-year-old pulled no punches during his media interviews, heavily criticising the team and taking aim at its new CEO Laurent Rossi. After posting his displeasure at the team allowing his exit to be leaked early (“No respect!”), he told French publication L’Equipe his relationship with Rossi was behind the exit, accusing him of being jealous. Prost said: “Rossi’s desire is to be alone, not to be polluted by anyone. He told me he no longer needed advice. There is a real desire to put a lot of people on the sidelines.”

Prost’s exit, at least for now, puts an end to his incredible grand prix career both on and off the track. After retiring following his fourth world crown in 1993, Prost bought the Ligier team and rebranded it Prost Grand Prix for 1997, running the team until 2002. He then became an F1 steward from 2010, before eventually joining Renault as an adviser in 2017. We wouldn’t bet against him being back again soon..
