Historic sports racing: Daytona - watch this Spice

Jim Mullen and Brian Devries claimed the first round of America’s Historic Sports Racing series, which took place on the support bill of the recent Daytona 24 Hours.

The pair triumphed in the former’s twin-wing Spice-Chevrolet IMSA racer after Craig Bennett had suffered a series spins in the NPTI Nissan he shared with Jim Oppenheimer. Pole-sitter and early leader Stan Wattles, the former IRL driver, ended up third after a slow pitstop and gearbox problems in his ex-Euroracing Lola-Judd T92/10.

Wattles’ pole position time in the 1992 Group C racer was 6sec faster than pole for the 24 Hours.
