VSCC meeting
The VSCC two-day meeting at Donington, on June 8/9, is titled ‘British Empire Vintage and Historic Weekend’. Bentley, Lola and MINI will play an important part, with Lola’s history from 1958 recalled, a Lola race, and ChampCars to be seen up close.
There will be Group C, pre-1962 sportscar, pre-1966 rear-engined GP, and pre-1965 GT races, as well as one for drum-braked 1950s sportscars, perhaps producing the slogan ‘disc brakes are for girlies’.
The usual events for older cars will include the Richard Seaman Trophy race and others for vintage and pre-1941 cars, together with an evening race for Gentleman Drivers in 1960s sports and GT cars, and a two-day team contest. On the Saturday, Tom Wheatcroft’s 80th birthday party will have Murray Walker, OBE, as guest of honour, with a charity auction in aid of the NSPCC. Weekend tickets £25 (£20 in advance), race entry fees £60 and £144 (short/long events) closing on May 6. For more information ring the VSCC on 01608 644777.
