Lola and Bentley to star at British Empire Trophy
The vintage car club has announced details of its major event of the season, the British Empire Trophy celebration at Donington Park over the weekend of June 8/9.
The event will be supported by Bentley and Lola, with a race dedicated to Lola sports-racing cars included in the programme. Group C cars, pre-1961 front-engined Formula One cars, pre-1966 rear-engined F1 cars and pre-1954 drum-braked sportscars will also race, as the HGPCA lends major support to the meeting. A traditional programme of VSCC events will be held for the Richard Seaman Trophy and a pre-war race will be held in memory of the British Empire Trophy races held at the circuit in the 1930s.
The Bentley association will be marked by a race for pre-war Bentleys, along with a re-union of vintage Le Mans team cars. Demonstrations by a Formula One Jordan and a current Le Mans Bentley will also be held.
Linked to the VS CC event will be a celebration dinner to mark Tom Wheatcroft’s 80th birthday and the 25th anniversary of the re-opening of the circuit in 1977. Murray Walker will be guest of honour for the dinner.
