The Verzons
The Verzons
Time flies, and on new years day it was off to ‘The Verzons’ near Ledbury for another of Mark Garfitt’s great gatherings, with around 100 pre-1941 cars and many others of interest. The Distance award went to Antony Dacey from Hove in a 1938 Lancia Aprilia. Familiar arrivals included the 35B, 49 and 35T Bugattis of Mike Marshall, Keith Hill, and Garfitt in Sally Marsh’s car. Hamish Moffatt used his OM, and Chris Gould avoided the cold and wet in his smart 1930 Avon Standard Special coupe. Brass was provided by the big 1911 White petrol car, Stuart Smith bought Garfitts’s sports FN BMW 319/55 and Jeremy Holden was the sole 30/98 exponent. Rodney Felton and the Rainey family had 2.9B and 6C Alfa Romeos. Notable was the Amilcar-Riley with an Amal for each of the six cylinders.
The pre-war breakdown was: Morgan three-wheelers 17, MGs from 18/80 to Very Special N-Type 11, Austins 10, Morris 8, Talbot and R-R five each, vintage Bentley, Sunbeam, Alvis and Rover four each, Morgan four-wheelers, Bugatti, Humber and Lagonda three each, Riley 9, Lancia, Aston Martin, Wolseley, Alfa Romeo, Tamplin and Le Mans Singer two each and lone examples of Avon Standard, OM, White, 30/98, FN-BMW, Standard, Derby Bentley, vintage Renault and Amikar-Riley. Who says the old car movement isn’t flourishing?
