Gay writes

Either my poor English may be playing a trick on me or else DSJ can’t keep up with the times and/or suffers from homophobia. I refer to his article “Media Spotlight” in the December issue of MOTOR SPORT, where he concludes that (amongst other things) the change of the term of abuse “queer” for a homosexual person into the less discriminative “gay”, must have taken place at the dead of night, while we were all asleep. The pocket Oxford Dictionary (1931 edition; to keep pace with DSJ) explains “queer” as: strange, odd, of questionable character, shady, suspect, out of sorts, etc. and “gay” as: light-hearted, sportive, mirthful, showy, brilliant, etc.

With this dictionary knowledge of English, may I conclude that DSJ not only dislikes “gay” people (to which he naturally has every right, as people have the right to dislike DSJ), but apparently also wants to insult your gay readers, which this gay reader does not expect the editor to tolerate!
