Dallara's 1989 challenger

Scuderia Italia launched its BMS Dallara J 189 in Varese on February 2. The new chassis, clearly influenced by last year’s March and Tyrrell models, is fitted with Ford’s Cosworth-built DFR V8 engine, prepared by Heini Mader, and Dallara’s own longitudinal six-speed gearbox.

Alex Caffi and new signing Andrea de Cesaris are entered for all 1989 Grands Prix. The latter brings Marlboro sponsorship and is nominated as the number one driver, while the former must pre-qualify.
