by Martin Holmes. 192pp. 103/4 x 8. (Van + Van Publiciteit, Postbus 4, 2380 AA Zoeterwouse, Netherlands. £12.95).
Published by a Dutch company for the first 1st time, this is nevertheless the eleventh in the series first published by Osprey in 1978, the link being author and photographer Martin Holmes.
The best section is the description of the World Rally Championship rounds, with succinct text backed up by colour and black-and-white photographs. Rallying is a very photogenic sport, and the book’s designers have done full justice to the illustrations.
Other chapters include a profile on Toyota Team Europe, an interview with technical chief Andre de Conanze on the philosophy behind Peugeot’s rally raid programme, and the thoughts of Miki Biasion, 1988 World Rally Champion. The last 60 pages are devoted to rally car development in 1988 and mountains of results and statistics representing hours of compilation and research.
An attractive and useful package, this is good value at £12.95. WPK
