Natural Service
Sir,
We were delighted with the rather pleasant comments made by Mr. J. Thomas of B.A.O.R., on the way his enquiry about a Fiat 850 was handled by one of our salesmen. It seems strange that one should have to say this, but the attitude taken by our salesman, should surely be natural and not exceptional. If our salesmen were to behave otherwise, I can assure you they would not be employed very long with this Company. Incidentally, as you will note from my name, that this is a British-managed company and the salesmen concerned are all British, so it does prove that it has nothing to do with nationality, but purely the approach to a job. In practice we have been extremely successful with Fiats since we introduced them to the British Military market in Germany, in the end of 1960. They are quite common among the Forces here, and very popular indeed partly because Fiats, despite their immense production. take the trouble to try to afford every form of assistance in developing even a small market like this. After all there are only a maximum of 55,000 British troops in this country at any one time and that is the population of a fairly small town. In addition thanks must be passed to United Motor Finance Corporation Limited in Slough, who have handled the greater part of the hire purchase for the Forces here on these cars and also GAC International Limited, London, who, in the last 12 months, have also given quite a few servicemen generous hire purchase facilities.
The price difference between the Imp and the Fiat 850 mentioned by Mr. Thomas is a bit out of date row. There is actually a difference today of £22, including delivery charges, etc., and we retail the Fiat 850 at £389 complete.
As a matter of fact, if you care to publish our enclosed price list for members of the British Forces in Germany you can probably save the Ministry of Defence a lot of money on recruiting advertising. As I can well imagine quite a few people would be willing to spend a couple of years in B.A.O.R. if only they knew the kind of advantage they could have.
