"Phoenix Evening"

When V.S.C.C. members gathered at “The Phoenix,” Hartley Wintney last month the question could well have been “Where have all the vintage cars gone ?” Because by 9 p.m. the only ones in the car-park were a 3-litre Bentley 2-seater, its screen folded flat in defiance of the dismal rain, an angular Austin 12/4 saloon, a nice 9/20 Humber tourer and a 1930 Sunbeam Sixteen shooting brake. There were a couple of p.v.t. Riley Nines, a Delage saloon, a Matchless-engined Morgan and several exciting moderns, including Stoop’s Porsche 911. But what a sparsity of the right sort of motor-cars. . . ! Perhaps they were being spared for Charterhouse on the Sunday ?
