Rumours

We hear, shall we say from our spy in Oxford, that later this year a new British small car will appear, with a rear-placed, air-cooled flat-four engine with o.h. camshafts, all-round independent suspension, disc front brakes, and a 2-door body resembling to some extent that of the old Ford Anglia. It is said that attempts will be made to hold the price down to around £475 inclusive of p.t. and that the prototypes have proved surprisingly fast. Bodies are said to be already in production, at the rate of 40 a week. Tubeless 5.50 in. x 13 in. tyres are expected to be used.

We also hear that the expected baby Vauxhall is being developed in both saloon and van forms; apparently it is to be a quite small vehicle, running on 5.20 in. x 12 in. tyres. Time will decide the accuracy of these interesting rumours.—W. B.
