National Team of Grand Prix Cars
We have just received a most important announcement from Bourne. Raymond Mays, who has been negotiating with some of the most influential engineering manufacturers in the country, informs us that he has now received sufficient initial support to enable him to announce the intention to build a national team of Grand Prix cars. It is proposed to form a “design team” comprising specialists in the various departments of racing-car construction. Raymond Mays has decided to entrust Peter Berthon with the task of creating the master design and, necessarily, beyond this, acting in liaison with the various specialists whose units will be incorporated in the cars to be produced.
Accordingly, the new team of British cars will be planned in a spirit of co-operative endeavour, embodying the most advanced practical research to date, which will serve as the basis for still more intensive research into their functioning on road and track.
The firms co-operating are: Aero Piston Ring Co., Ltd.; British Wire Products, Ltd,; Brown Bros. (Aircraft), Ltd.; David Brown & Sons (Huddersfield), Ltd.; Delaney Galley, Ltd.; Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd.; E.M.V. Engineering Co., Ltd.; Ferodo, Ltd.; Thos. Firth & John Brown, Ltd.; Girling, Ltd.; Hardy, Spicer & Co., Ltd.; Heenan & Froude, Ltd.; High Duty Alloys, Ltd.; Lodge Plugs, Ltd.; Joseph Lucas, Ltd.; Rotax, Ltd.: Rubery, Owen & Co., Ltd.; Geo. Falter & Co., Ltd.; Specialloid, Ltd.; Standard Valves, Ltd.; Super Oil Seals & Gaskets, Ltd.; Tecalemit, Ltd.; A. Wander, Ltd.
Further to the above list, Raymond Mays wishes to thank Rolls-Royce, Ltd., for their invaluable assistance and advice regarding engine technique and the application of aero engine development that has taken place during the war.
We would like to congratulate Raymond Mays on producing a plan of such magnitude, which, when it reaches fruition, will do much to focus attention on British motoring activities.
We eagerly await developments.
