We are indebted to V. H. Tuson for the accompanying notes, which follow on previous tuning articles relating to Austin, Alvis, Bentley, Delage, Frazer-Nash, Hotchkiss, Riley and Talbot cars. Anyone who knows the immense amount of labour and money which has to be expended in gathering such data in respect of one model only, will appreciate Mr. Tuson’s generosity in presenting the results of his researches to readers at the Editor’s request. He ran his Type 509A Fiat in the 1933 Relay Race, in company with Robins’s M.G. and Levy’s M.G., the team finishing third, at 76.37 m.p.h. In 1935 he turned his attention to the 995 c.c. “Balilla” Fiat and his team finished fifth in the Relay Race, at 78.67 m.p.h. In 1936 Tuson gained a “Silver ” in the Land’s End, his team was running at the end of the Relay Race, he took a Premier in the M.C.C. Hour High-Speed Trial at 73.89 m.p.h. and he won the standard sports class at the Brighton Speed Trials, at 52.02 m.p.h. Amongst the Fiat’s 1937 successes were:—  Premier award in the M.C.C High Speed Trial, first in the 1,100 c.c. Super Sports class at the Vintage S.C.C. Croydon Speed Trial, fourth in the Relay Race with Andrews and Westwood, at 77.63 m.p.h., first in the second Whitsun Short Handicap, :it. 84.46 m.p.h., lapping at 88.62 m.p.h., third in a Campbell Circuit Long Handicap and third in an Easter Short Handicap. These 995 c.c. Balilla Fiats were notably successful, also, in the hands of such drivers as Masters, Tett, Sandford, Dobson, Stothert, Miss Chaff, etc. In 1938 Tuson prepared a 1,089 c.c. Balilla Fiat with a special racing body and won a Brooklands outer circuit handicap at 89.07 m.p.h., lapping at 92.57 m.p.h.
