Bill Stone
Bill Stone, who has died after a long illness, was an accomplished racer but he will be best remembered as the irst employee at March, Reynard and British American Racing.
Kiwi Stone raced in the Tasman series in 1968, before heading for the UK to race in Formula 3. After the money ran out, he joined March, then established Sabre Engineering, which would
build Adrian Reynard’s eponymous Formula Fords.
Stone ran his own Formula Renault team, running Jason Plato in 1990, and then became team manager at Andy Rouse Engineering. Reynard re-hired Stone to run his Chrysler touring car team in the US, and then moved him over to BAR for ’99.
