As a straightforward overview of the phenomenal success in Formula One enjoyed by WilliamsF1, this is an unpretentious and uncomplicated book. Pretty well like the team, then.

It’s by no means an A-Z of the life and times of Frank Williams and Patrick Head; in its own terms, it is an authorised photographic biography of the team’s 25 years. As such, there is no flowing narrative. Instead it offers over 200 pages of images with lengthy captions in which Henry offers polished and interesting accounts, and a series of one-page profiles on key figures.

An aesthetic feast it is not, however. Amid good photos there are a surprising number of poor ones, and few behind-the-scenes ‘treasures’. We can only hope that Henry will get the chance to update his earlier comprehensive history. TS
