TGP: Jarama and Spa

Fredy Kumschick was a convincing victor when the TGP season started at Jarama in mid-April. The Swiss steered his Williams FWO7C to the flag with a margin of 4sec over local man Joaquin Folch in his ex-Keke Rosberg FW08.

Folch was headed by the Tyrrell 011 of John Wilson until its diff blew. With a clear track ahead, Folch chased Kumschick but was never able to trouble the leader. In their wake British veteran Dave Karaskas took third in his Arrows A4, reigning champion Mike Whatley a class-winning fourth in his Ensign N175.

Kumschick did it again at Spa in early May, but had to work hard having dropped to third at the start behind Folch and the Arrows A4 of Hubertus Bahlsen.

When Bahlsen locked up at the Bus Stop chicane, Kumschick grabbed second and set off after Folch. With two laps to go, Fredy powered ahead to complete a double victory.
