Greats line up for two-driver Le Mans ‘Legends’

Sir Stirling Moss and Phil Hill are just two of the star names lining up for the Le Mans Legends historic race on the Saturday morning of this year’s 24-hour classic. Moss will drive the 1959 race-winning Aston Martin DBR1, the sister car to the one he drove in that year’s race. Run for cars from the period 1959 to ’71, the race features a 60-strong field packed with cars from the event’s history.

For the first time the Legends race will use a one-hour, two-driver format, starting at 10.15am on Saturday, June 14. This means that the huge crowd will be treated to a race of actual Le Mans cars, or genuine sister chassis, with the bonus of dramatic driver changes in the famous pitlane just hours before the big race itself.

Moss will share the famous Aston with the marque’s current boss Ulrich Bez, while Hill is scheduled to race an Alfa Romeo TZ. Fellow former Le Mans winner Jackie Oliver will race Martin Colvill’s Ford GT40, while David Piper’s Porsche 917 and Nick Mason’s Ferrari 512S are amongst the later cars in the race.

Other Maranello greats entered include P3, 250LM, 330LMB and 250GT0.
