Ball races to success
Memorable wins for Chris Ball (Brabham BT28) and Neil Fowler (Lola T200) were among the highlights of another first-class Historic Sports Car Club meeting.
Ball’s Classic Racing Car victory was won the hard way as Michael Scott got his March 702 running better than ever. Edwin Jowsey put his father’s BT28 firmly in contention as well until its engine cried enough mid-race. Jowsey’s departure didn’t help Ball much, though, as Scott snapped at his heels right to the flag.
Fowler again topped the Historic Formula Fords, but a fierce charge from Paul Sleeman in the rare Macon MR8 pushed young Fowler every inch of the shortened race.
Nick Crossley’s March 73A dominated the Derek Bell race and John Bladon’s pretty Merlyn Mk4 was top of the Classic Sports.
Also notable was BMW-mounted Simon Garrad’s Historic Saloon victory over the Jaguar of Graeme Dodd.
