Pearson wins GP Support Race
Local Lister-Jaguar ace Gary Pearson won the BRDC’s Historic Sports Car Championship round which graced the British Grand Prix support bill, after a thrilling battle with Robert Brooks’ agile 2-litre Lotus 15 in slippery conditions.
The demise of pole position man John Harper’s Cooper-Monaco, beached in the bunker at Bridge from half-distance, and the sister car of Frank Sytner with engine problems, precluded a rear-engined triumph.
The Ferrari 246S of Tony Dron eventually got the better of Peter Hardman’s usual Aston Martin DBR1 from the same Sporting & Classic Cars stable for third place, having previously mixed it with the Listermounted Nick Linney.
Erstwhile points leader Win Percy’s Lotus 15 suffered simultaneous electrical master switch and coil failure in the assembly area, rendering the triple British Saloon Car Champion a non-starter. MP
