F5000 to have it's own races
F5000’s revival has been a long time coming, but the big V8s have now captured European competitors’ imagination sufficiently to warrant exclusive races at major meetings.
Promoter David McLaughlin has 30 cars registered for the Transatlantic Challenge, but is cautious about the opening round at Donington on June 3/4. “We’re hoping for 15, and a lot more at Brands in September,” he says.
Mike Whatley’s Surtees TS8 is ready, while Frank Lyons and John Bladon will drive the ex-Tony Trimmer Lola T332 and ex-Sam Posey Surtees TS11. Historic F1 ace Simon Hadfield will go well in a Lola T330, and restoration of the ex-Willie Green Trojan T101 is his team’s next project.
Both ex-Team VDS Chevron B28s are runners with Keith Norris and Nick Shrigley-Feigl driving, Ean Pugh has entered his ex-David Hobbs McLaren M10 and John Barry is planning to reunite Keith Holland with his race-winning Trojan. MP
