Stig dumps Skoda for assault on Pikes Peak record

Buoyed by his superb finish on year’s RAC Rally – third in a Skoda – rallying legend Stig Blomqvist has turned his attention to more outrageous matters: the first sub-10 minute run on this July’s Pikes Peak hillclimb.

The former World Rally Champion, a newcomer to the Colorado mountain, will drive a rather extreme evolution of Ford’s Group B RS200 rally car that he helped to develop in the mid-1980s.

Prepared by Graham Hathaway, the RS200 is set to develop a very healthy 850bhp from its 2.4-litre engine, although recent dyno tests have revealed somewhat unsurprisingly that its con-rods weren’t up to the job. Formula One parts are being sourced…
