Where are they now?

Sir,

I have to admit I do not buy Motorsport regularly, but the sight of Ronnie Peterson oversteering the Lotus 72 on your cover persuaded me that I needed a ‘fix’ of how motor racing used to be.

In Matters of Moment, you asked as to the whereabouts of Chris Amon’s ill-starred attempt as a constructor, but are you sure your description won’t lead searchers from the truth? No one could describe the AMON AS 101 as “an innovative aerodynamic package”. “A full-width wing mounted above the nose” sounds more like the March 701, or the later Theodore TY01.

The device designed by Gordon Fowell and part-financed by John Dalton was not an attractive one. The car was advertised in Autosport within the past 12 months, with its later ‘chisel’ nose with twin aero-foils. The original, full-width bluff nose stood for years outside the Long Barn Motor Museum, near Heathfield.

On the ‘where are they now’ theme:

Is the De Tomaso 308 still on top of the factory toilet in Italy? Where are the Brabham BT 34 ‘Lobster Claw’, the Token RJ 02 (later Safir), the Goral Techno (also driven by Amon), the Connew PC1, the Maki and Kojima (back in Japan?), the Kauhsen and the Rebaque?

I am, yours, Etc
