It occurs to me again that a driver has only to be killed or join a new team to be the subject of a biography by Christopher Hilton. So with Jacques Villeneuve. Even before his sensational pole-position and second-place finish for Williams-Renault in the first F1 Championship race of 1996, Hilton had made him the subject of this 176-page tribute with its 25 colour plates and other pictures. All credit to Haynes PSL for so promptly publishing similar books on Alesi, Senna, Mansell, Schumacher, Berger, Senna again, another on Senna, and Hunt (with Torvill and Dean for good measure). You can thus brush-up on your F1 heroes, alive or otherwise, proven or unproven, as the mood takes you. W B
