Cash for Continental historics

The prestigious German Steigenberger Hotels chain has committed £100,000 to sponsorship of a number of European championships for Historic cars, together with Blaupunkt, Diners Club, Ebel watches, and Seeger leather. Historic events on the Continent have a much higher profile than here, and five series will benefit from the upmarket exposure and the specialist catering facilities that the group can offer. These are the Classic Car Trophy, the Shell Trophy for classic saloons, the Historic GT series, the Super Sports Cup, and the German Open for Formula and two-seater racing cars from 1947 to 71.

Organised in conjunction with FHR, the German equivalent of our HSCC, the racing moves to Britain on June 7 at Brands Hatch.

British drivers contesting the series include John Foulston, Charles Agg, and Chris Aylett. Stirling Moss, currently contesting the HSCC Classic Sports Championship, hopes to have his Elva-BMW accepted for the FIA series soon.
