Alfa Romeo’s long-awaited and much delayed Tipo 164 saloon is heading for a debut at the Frankfurt Show in September. The big saloon, which derives from the common Lancia/Saab/Fiat/Alfa development project, becomes the flagship model, replacing the late and unlamented Alfa 6 and the Alfetta saloon. It will use the 2-litre Twin Spark four and 3.0 V6 engines in a transverse front-wheel drive installation. Mid-1988 is the expected date for UK availability. GC
