1977 Spanish Grand Prix in pictures
Third place in the Spanish Grand Prix was the subject of an intense dispute between Jody Scheckter’s Wolf (No. 20. above) and Jochen Mass’ McLaren (No. 2) seen in our photograph split by Patrick Neve’s Frank Williams owned March which is being lapped. Adding to the Lotus team’s joy after Andretti’s victory, their second driver Gunnar Nilsson brought the other Lotus 78 (below left) home fifth. Lower right, Rupert Keegan made his Grand Prix debut in the new Hesketh 308E but spun off just before the half distance.
Jacques Laffite (above) was the only driver to keep Andretti in sight during the early stages od the Spanish Grand Prix, but he was forced to pit his Ligier-Matra with a loose rear wheel after 12 laps. Below, Reutemann’s Ferrari is seen on its way to a lonely second place. Bottom, Pererson’s Tyrreel P34 leads Jones’ Shadow DN8 during a hectic scrap that resulted in wheel-to-wheel contact on several occasions!
