Silverstone Six Hours
The Kosset Six Hours race at Silverstone resulted as expected in a clean sweep for Porsche in this third round of the World Championship for Makes. In the picture at the top of the page, the winning works car of Jochen Mass and Jacky Ickx heads the rival Kremer Porsche of Bob Wollek and John Fitzpatrick and the rest of the 28 car field. The factory Porsche 935/77 of Ickx and Mass (right) eventually beat the Kremer car by a lap; below, it comes under pressure from the third placed Porsche 935 entered by Georg Loos for Rolf Stommelen and Toine Hezemans. The most memorable performance of the race, however, came from the 2-litre Feltz BMW 320i pictured above: it finished a fine class-winning fourth after a magnificent drive by Ronnie Peterson and his partner Helmut Kelleners, and was the only non-Porsche among the first 14 finishers.
