The VSCC at Oulton Park

One of the good things about the Vintage SCC is that it does not make changes merely for the sake of change. Thus its next race meeting, following the Silverstone fixture reported on page 680, will be at Oulton Park (near Tarporley, Cheshire) on June 12th. This is the Richard Seaman Memorial Trophies Meeting, at which the two main events are the 16-lap Scratch Race for pre-1940 racing cars and the 16-lap Scratch Race for vintage racing cars. Fast stuff, over this pleasant circuit, although its abbreviation to a lap distance of 1.654 miles caused some concern and incident at last year’s vintage racing. Faster still should be the 20-lap Allcomers’ Scratch Race for Historic Racing Cars and other machinery deemed high-performance in relative vintage terms.

To support these three notable races there will be the usual handicaps, over five and six laps, one probably devoted entirely to chaindrive Frazer Nashes and GNs. There will also take place the traditional Cheshire Life d’Concours Elegance which brings together some extremely covetable cars, this magazine’s trophy going to the winner, the Martini Trophy to the leader of’ the opposite class, the whole culminating in a grand parade round the circuit. The first race will start at about 1.15, or at approx. 13.15 hours. Admission arrangements are in the hands of the circuit promoters, not the VSCC, but we are informed that the charges will be, as last year, £1.50 per person, transfer to the Paddock £1.00 extra. Further points will be scored during the afternoon towards this year’s Motor Sport Brooklands Memorial Trophy Contest, at present led by Fleming’s Riley Special.—W.B.
