Poor Fools

Sir,

The headline “Thanks a Million, Healey!” in this month’s MOTOR SPORT must be the closest thing in years to the “It’s Peace!” slogans which appeared after Munich in 1938.

For some months now the correspondence columns in MOTOR SPORT and other motoring magazines have been full of letters scare-mongering about a proposed “doubling-up” of the Road Tax.

Now that the budget has been announced, motorists are going about congratulating themselves . . . “After all, it could have been £10 more”. God!

Before the next budget I suggest that every anti-motorist in the country writes letters to MOTOR SPORT and the others, asking about the proposed “50p per gallon” increase rumour that they have heard about. Come the budget when petrol is raised to a mere pound a gallon, motorists will go about, smiling, congratulating themselves on . . . etc.

In closing I must say that, bar idiot “fortune telling” correspondence, that MOTOR SPORT must be the best magazine of its kind (even if a little BMW biased).
