Monza 1000 Kms. Pictorial

Following their consecutive defeats at Vallelunga and Dijon, the Ferrari sports-car team bounced back with a win in the Monza 1000 Kms. held on the Wednesday just after Easter. Above, pictured on the pace lap, is the winning car of Jacky Ickx, with Henri Pescarolo’s Matra alongside, and the rest of the field fanned out behind. Looking unusual in blue and white was the Alfa Romeo 33TT3 of Carlos Facetti/”Pam” (No. 16), which finished fifth. The British Gulf-Mirage team was out of luck and both cars retired before mid-distance; Derek Bell is pictured in car No. 4. Matra’s chances disappeared when bent stub axles were discovered; here Pescarolo’s car is checked as the green-helmeted driver watches.
