Coundley’s new Lotus 19 should have won the first race but a push-start disqualified it. So Williams won from Warner and Parsons, all driving Lotus 23s. Dodd parked Birch’s Jaguar-E backwards on a sandbank at Woodcote.

The G.T. 10-lap Race saw the welcome appearance of a Lotus Elan—Keegan’s—which was well driven and won easily at 85.27 m.p.h. from Duggan (Elite) and a Morgan—twin o.h.c., single o.h.c. and push-rods, in that order, and a result to satisfy “M. L. T.”! But both this and another Elan retired in a later race.

Pendleton (Jaguar 3.8) won the Saloon Car Scratch Race comfortably at 80 m.p.h., followed 7.8 sec. later by Fennings’ very quick Mini-Cooper. But the duel for third place between the Mini-Coopers of Nicholls and Lewis, 0.2 sec. between them at the line, was what the crowd wanted. De Selincourt then made amends for Coundley by winning the Formule Libre Race at 92 1/4 m.p.h. in the latter’s Lotus 19, but it would have been different if Prophet’s F.J. Brabham hadn’t spun at Lavant while in the lead. Harris’ Austin Healey 3000 took the Marque Race at 82.41 m.p.h. from the Sprinzel/Dangerfield TR4, the Saloon Car Handicap was a riot from which A. R. Allard’s blown Ford Allardette emerged the victor, averaging an impressive 82.6 m.p.h., Buchanan-Michaelson’s factory-vetted 982-cc. Fiat Abarth won a 5-lap Handicap at 77.72 m.p.h., to lead with Bloor in the Motor Sport Brooklands Memorial Trophy Contest, second place going to Ferguson’s 3-wheeler (on the corners) G.M.S. Delta-Ford, which in an earlier race tried to force the Fiat off course in the chicane but instead had itself spun round! The last Handicap was a gift for Fielden’s limit TR4, which only had to average 73.72 m.p.h. to win easily and sensibly from Pickard’s Morgan.—W. B.
