One of the earliest of classic motor races, the Vanderbilt Cup was first held in 1904 and run intermittently until 1915. It was resurrected in 1936 and 1937 when the European circus went over to America, the 1937 event being only the ninth in the series since 1904. The Cup is being revived this year at the Roosevelt Raceway on the site of the original track at Westbury, New York. A 1-1/2-mile circuit is being specially constructed through the 300 acres of the Raceway. The Vanderbilt Cup will be just part of a two-day meeting to be held at the Roosevelt Raceway on June 18/9th.
