A GARAGE RUN BY EXPERTS

IT is not often that a new garage is opened under such favourable circumstances as those which marked the inauguration of the Cresta Motor Company, Broadwater Road, Worthing, on Sunday, May 13th. A pleasantly informal cocktail party was ” thrown ” by the directors, A. W. L. Maclachlan, J. C. and R. C. Elwes, and their friends from near and far turned up to give their blessing to the new venture. The premises are magnificent. A spacious showroom occupies a corner site, and on this occasion contained a fine display of M.G., Austin, Aston Martin and Armstrong Siddeley cars. An exhibit which aroused considerable interest was the cut-away ” P’, type M.G. Midget

chassis, a car which incidentally is building up a wonderful reputation for itself among discerning sports car enthusiasts. The offices and cloakrooms are furnished and decorated in the most modern fashion, a point in which many garages are still notoriously backward. But the showroom and offices are only the “front,” so to speak, and lead into a huge covered garage, which is of sufficient size to provide ample room, even at the busiest week-ends. Conveniently placed is the latest type of Tecalemit high pressure greasing plant, together with the usual washing outfit. At the far end is the workshop, placed so that cars may be driven straight on to the most ” luxurious ” pit we have ever seen, white-tiled

and well lighted.

Altogether we were greatly impressed by the general layout and attention to detail shown throughout the whole garage. The ability and knowledge of Elwes and Maclachlan are well-known among their many friends, but to those who do not know them we would say that both have the benefit of a thorough training in one of the most famous motor-engineering factories in Great Britain. Added to this is the fact that they have tuned and raced their own cars with considerable success for many years, the experience gained in this way rendering the Cresta Motor Company a garage especially suited to the execution of special overhauls which fast cars always need.
