Letters from readers, June 1952
Citroen fan Sir, If I may, I should like to add my mite to the Citroen correspondence. My qualifications for addressing you are very slight : I have never seen, far…
W Series may be working as intended, with Jamie Chadwick having sealed a deal to become a Williams Formula 1 development driver.
Runner-up to Beitske Visser at Zolder and winner of the first race at Hockenheim, Chadwick has joined Williams’ Racing Driver Academy, acting as a test and development driver to support the F1 operation with possible practice session appearances.
W Series remains a tough watch, however, with teething issues mainly down to broadcasting.
The damp surface had drivers locking up at the Hockenheim hairpin in the inaugural race, and the presentation wasn’t as slick as the surface – with audio issues and a lack of live timing. Live timing was present for the second race (at Zolder). Belgian Sarah Bovy – given a wildcard entry for her home race – had a torrid weekend as her F3-spec Tatuus broke down on the formation lap.
The race began anyway and the ensuing battle between Visser and Chadwick more than made up for it.
