This 1966 275 GTB – one of only eight right-hand drive, long-nose two-cam cars with the torque tube drivetrain rather than the original open driveshaft – has an amazing history full of twists and turns. It might be described as chequered, but it is now back in its original factory specification, complete with Celeste Chiaro Metallizzato – that’s dark metallic sky blue – bodywork and is for sale at Simon Furlonger Specialist Cars.
It was originally the personal car of Ferrari importer Col Ronnie Hoare at Maranello Concessionaires. It had a supercharger fitted in the late 1960s, was converted into a NART Spider in the early 1980s and also had a brief spell in the ownership of David Morrison, who ran the Parabolica team that fielded a McLaren F1 GTR in sports car events in 1997. Only in 2013-2014 was it returned to its original specification, roof and all, with an extensive restoration at Twyman Racing.
There’s an impressive history file, says Simon Furlonger. It includes a copy of a road test in Autocar with the car “smoking down the road pulling a little fifth wheel measuring device”.
“It’s a matching-numbers car with Ferrari classiche authentication, and still has the original tool roll,” Furlonger says. “It is just as it would have been in period, but also has an amazing back story.”
The current owner, a high-profile car collector, is selling the car because he is “changing the focus of his collection,” says Furlonger. The asking price is £2.25 million.
