Off-the-wall racers return
Kiwi Roger Wills raced two cars from the Donington Collection during the Monaco Historic GP, including the March 701 that Chris Amon raced in 1970.
Wills added the March and the ex-Patrick Depailler sixwheel Tyrrell P34 to his stable when selected cars were sold from Tom Wheatcroft’s collection.
Amon raced the March in 1970 and won the nonchampionship International Trophy at Silverstone. He was second in France and Belgium and then Wheatcroft ran the car for Derek Bell in the ’71 Argentine GP.
It was then hung on the wall so it wouldn’t cost Wheatcroft any more money and stayed there until Wills bought it in 2010.
