Portugal gets first RoC regional final
Portugal is to stage the first Race of Champions Regional Final at the home of FC Porto. With an increasing number of countries wanting to enter the Nations Cup in Beijing, organisers of the event have decided to hold regional finals. The first of these, for southern Europe, will pit Spain, Portugal, Italy and Monaco against each other on June 6/7.
An asphalt course will be built inside the Estádio do Dragão where drivers such as Carlos Sainz, Dani Sordo, Jamie Alguersuari, Gigi Galli and Emanuele Pirro will compete. As well as the Nations Cup there will be an RoC Legends contest featuring Johnny Herbert, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Mick Doohan and Andy Priaulx.
“We chose Portugal for the first Regional Final because of the enormous passion for motor sport here,” said Fredrik Johnsson, president of IMP.
