Barry Mulholland

The man who co-drove Bruce McPhee to Holden’s first victory In Australia’s ‘Great Race’, the Bathurst 1000, died recently.

Barry Mulholland was definitely the number two driver to McPhee, but he played the anchor role as their Holden Monaro triumphed at Bathurst in 1968, defeating the works General Motors entries in the process.

This was by far his greatest achievement in track racing – Barry’s regular participation in motorsport came mostly in rallying.

Murray Raine

The Australian racing driver and engineer died in May. He was three times an Australian Formula Three champion, built Rainey karts, and was an acknowledged expert on Alfa Romeo 6Cs and 8Cs, built an Alfa-engined special, and wrote a book about the 8C.

Rainey is reckoned to be the first man to successfully supercharge a single-cylinder engine. He modified a host of racing cars and also built the Murrain hillclimber for his daughter Joy, as well as preparing her Pilbeam-Hart.
