Family outing at Indianapolis
The next generation…
US legend Mario Andretti unites with son and grandson on track
Three generations of the Andretti family took to the Brickyard in Indycars of two eras just after the track opened for practice for this year’s Indy 500. Recently (and temporarily) un-retired Michael and his son Marco will contest this year’s race.
Michael’s father Mario was on hand in the 1967 pole-winning Dean Van Lines Hawk-Ford, while Michael and Marco drove their 2006 Dallara-Hondas
This will be the first time that Michael and Marco have competed together, but Mario is a serial offender in the family team stakes. Apart from the years when he and Michael raced together in Indy cars, Mario has had a penchant for forming family teams at Le Mans, where he has raced with both Michael and nephew John.
